Ilisolethu Foundation was founded in 2021 by Akhona Makisi, a community development practitioner with extensive experience in project management, organisational development, community leadership, and business consulting.

Recognising the increasing socio-economic challenges facing disadvantaged communities, Akhona envisioned an organisation that would empower communities through education, skills development, economic participation, and sustainable development.

As the vision grew, Thabisa Ratshi, an experienced community activist and development practitioner, joined the Foundation as Co-Founder, bringing valuable expertise in community mobilisation, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and programme implementation.

The Foundation was further strengthened by the involvement of former Councillor Ntukulana Ncotela, whose governance experience, leadership, and commitment to community development continue to guide the strategic direction of the organisation.
